Summary: In this short communication, the authors highlight the impact of mycetoma on two patients and their families through visual ethnographic documentaries. Participant observations and interviews with several health care providers were recorded at the Mycetoma Research Centre and Soba University Hospital at the University of Khartoum in Sudan in collaboration with the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative. These ethnographic video films could be used to improve awareness of the socio-economic impact of mycetoma on patients and their families, with the aim of improving patient care. They could also be used to raise community awareness, for disease advocacy, and for health education to encourage early case detection and management.
